This is from the Nov. 11, 1966 show at the Fillmore, a FABULOUS show. http://www.archive.org/details/gd1966-11-19.fm.9730.shnf Smokestack Lighting is down and dirty blues, smoky and moody, harp and guitar, Pigpen and Jerry masterful and in sync -- the first known time the Dead played it, according Deadbase. Smokestack slips into the slower King Bee, which has the feel of Hendrix' Voodoo Child. Man, oh, man. There are plenty of other goodies in the 11/19/66 Fillmore show.

This is simply just absolutely incredible. I can't believe people are giving 1 star reviews because it's not some stellar quality. Yeah, maybe not for your modern day, over produced as hell sound, but for 1967, and live, this is absolutely incredible. Not to mention that it most likely wasn't some ridiculous good record company recording, it was some guy doing the best he could to a live show, with whatever he had. This version of Smokestack Lightning is absolutely beautiful man.
