The opening three songs (DS, St., 11) really offer everthing there is to get from a typical (which means GREAT!) '69 show. To me, the essence of this show is in the 11. This version just totally smokes. The speed of the song is very reminiscent of a Caution or Viola Lee jam in that is starts out a bit slower then just goes faster and faster until you cannot believe how fast they are playing. There are two ENORMOUS peaks in this version as well. The first is just past the 7:00 minute mark.

this show is great. full of eletric energy, especially early on. the peak for me (as well as most others) is the 11. it is simply astounding. garcia's playing really shines. his fender twin is just roaring with tubular saturation goodness. i really dig his tone in this show and most of '69 for that matter, but its so vivdly apparent and well captured in this show. it is unmasked by all the gnarly effects that would become so much a part of his guitars voice later on.

This is the eleven I keep coming back to. Especially for that hot spell after the verse. Red hot - as another reviewer put it for a different gig 'the valves in Jerry's amp must have been burning like red hot coals'. Beautiful Alligator with everyone on and a big fat finish. Thanks to everyone for this site, it's one of the jewels of the net. If you had anything to do with it then you are a star - Go to bed knowing you were/are part of something brilliant - w
