this is such a special band. as with so many nights before this one, you can see that here was a group of individuals who had worlds of creation before them. this show is a fiery gift. those 72 dark stars are being nourished right here. what never ceases to amaze me is how adventurous the dead are. and this rockin' night (i think the dead would rock the stones right out of any building during this late 60s early 70s period) is another sign post on the road.

Following a dr. Flashback review is a daunting task, I mean what else can be said. That having been said, the sonic quality here is excellent in a year a tad short on soundboards. Weir has some real shining moments in the 20plus minute darkstar which also features some great Garcia/Lesh interplay. The highlight for me is the superb transition from St. Stephen into a very well played Mason's Children. The cut in Mason's is unfortunate but still well worth the listen.
