Four American Beauty acoustic songs in a row plus another great Rosalie McFall. The vocals on Brokedown are real nice and the Box of Rain is like no other. Performance-wise, this is probably equal to the incredible acoustic set from the Sunday show (9-20; there's an incredible board recording of that one). Sweet harmonies all over the place ... Occasionally you can hear David Nelson singing in there, hitting some perfect high notes and playing the mandolin.

Though I would never suggest that this is better than 9/19, imo this performance is a clear rival of the more famed version from 2 nights later. The transitions between jams aren't done as smoothly (though as Chris pointed out, this is party due to a couple jarring tape cuts). But the roughly 6 min. jam after space is one of the most powerful and gorgeous in any Dark Star of the period, flowing almost unconsciously until they take a slightly abrupt turn into the Tighten Up jam, which is well…

Show started at 10:00 pm with Jerry and New Riders. Intermission had Dustin Hoffman on stage doing Harry Kellerman. Dead came on at Midnight - went to 5:45 am. Most didn't know Jimi died that day - Foxy Lady tribute via Pig (or Joshua) Light show. In one way Day the Music Died. Being my first Dead show - it was the Day Life Began. Glad I lived long enough to hear this show again. Thanks.
