- ★★★★★ · The GRATEFUL DEAD "Live On Stage" April 15, 1971 at Allegheny College, Meadville, PA, U.S.A. · oh_uh_um_ah · 2009
` ~^|\_@|@_/|^~ ~ / \ ~ Super 71' Soundboard! Thirty eight years and eight days ago the GRATEFUL DEAD were performing at Allegheny College, in Meadville, Pennsylvania, I wish I was there. I highly recommend adding this show to your 1971 GRATEFUL DEAD collection. "Classic 1971 Sound." Solid, "In the Pocket" performances of all our favorite 71' songs. Get all the April 71' shows, listen how they develop into "Ladies & Gentlemen The GRATEFUL DEAD" 4-25-29, shows from the Fillmore East, amazing!

Where did this little nugget come from? It's not really listed in Deadbase or the Compendium, and I streamed it just because I'm trying to turn on a buddy who lived near there, and I'm blown away. Every tune is played beautifully, and Garcia just flat out shreds on a number of songs. the Bertha and Deal both feature those loud sharp solos that sound like he's holding a downed power line in his teeth. Puts the electric in electric guitar for sure. I for one am always a fan of obscure shows.

This show was a blast and is captured beautifully here. A very intimate setting, and a crowd that was primed and gliding with the scene. I was there (as Lou Sleaves) with a group of friends, some from Virginia - Buckeyes, D*** (AKA Bones), Helmet Head, meableffutS, Cliff, Kiff, Madman, Carl. We brought a shopping bag full of oranges and threw them around in the crowd in that small, old gym.
