- ★★★★★ · Re: Did the Dead Dose? · Evan S. Hunt · 2011
This is in response to reviewer SteveOK: After the early days of 65-66 the band rarely performed while zonked on LSD. The reason: They just could not play well enough to get paid during the days when they went outside of their home area. If they did any stimulates while performing live on stage it was usually a little pot smoked by Jerry, and a few Heinekens for Phil. A few times it was suspected that they did some blow between sets because they needed a pick me up.

the link below has a good picture of the inside of the theater along with a few other places the Dead played. The theater is pretty old but is beautiful inside. The acoustics are pretty amazing too. Theres Pink FLoyd bootleg from the Dark Side OF The Moon Tour circulating called "Dark Side Of Radio City" which is listed as being performed at Radio City Music Hall but is actually a performance at the Palace Theater.

This wonderful show starts off a bit murky with a somewhat uneven mix. Phil is way out front, and the drums almost buried. But things eventually smooth out, and by the second set, we're treated to a great-sounding board recording. As with the other shows from this month, the band is really telegraphing what they would be doing throughout most of 1973. "Playing in the Band" is becoming a highlight, and this one is no exception, with some really fantastic jamming throughout.
