http://www.thebestofwebsite.com/Bands/Grateful_Dead/Misc/EvanHunt/NYEve_1972.htm Sometime around 3 am while the Dead were thoroughly steeped in their eerie snake music, I got sort of tired and started looking around. For some reason, I started rolling my head around to stretch it and, looking ceiling ward, noticed this guy standing on this thin little beam way up above the stage. He's just teetering there hanging on for dear life.

I still have a bunch of NYE shows to get to but somehow always gravitate to this show. This show besides reminding us how hot 1972 was is technically the 1st show of 1973. The way things worked out this is the only New Year's eve box of rain in the 70's. (I know they did at least one more in the 80's on NYE) Hey Radio DJ-just because you have the ability to talk over the flow, does NOT mean you should. They spend a good long time getting primed in Set One which is already after midnight.

There are so many great new 72 shows appearing that I want to rave on recently. Like 7/18, 8/24, 10/28 and the Winterland run in Dec. But this one still shines out. The last show of the first truly incredible year in Dead history (with apologies to 1969)and the band plays like the world is about to end. Great versions of Box of Rain, Candyman and Tennessee Jed, with a well jammed Playin.
