This concert was my first GD concert. For a young budding musician, this was a landmark event in my life... When I arrived at this concert, I had heard many of the then extent dead albums, and my only exposure to their extended improvising was in Live/Dead and Live in Europe (Truckin... Morning Dew). But nothing prepared me for what I was to experience on July 1, 1973. Having dosed up (!) immediately prior to arriving at the Amphitheatre, I enjoyed the first set.

Get this show!! While the vocals are a little miffy the instruments sound like a modern neumann onstage mix. This show is not the best of the year, however it is a priceless snapshot of what a dead show felt like if you were to close your eyes at a 73 summer show. Best pre-74 audience tape this side of 8-6-71!! Judge for yourself!! Outstanding!!
