One of my college roommates and I hitched from Oxford, Ohio to Watkins Glen to be part of this amazing and historic event. We arrived on Wednesday afternoon, and amazingly, our last ride was about 35 miles from WG, from a girl who actually lived a few blocks from us in Oxford who was going there as well! Anyway, it was a great time.

I read recently that Butch Trucks said he thought that the encore was a disaster, particularly mentioning the Mountain Jam. He said this was so because the drugs didn't mix well ("The Bad was drunk, Dead tripping, and Allman Bros. coked out.") I've listened to this a few times, and completely disagree. WHile there is plenty more to the show - namely the China>Rider, Playin', and Eyes - as an ABB fan, the Mountain Jam is what caught my eye first, and I think that Trucks in crazy.

The big blue bus (35 ft 1957 gmc school bus) drove thru the neighborhood and took anyone who was left on Love's Corner---headed north from philly to one of the best concerts ever---got there early enough to get pretty close to the race track---found some blotter---wondered thru a sea of humanity (600,000 they say) and floated on the vibes and the music into the wee hours--the next morning when everyone was leaving ---we were in so close that we had to wait till the road opened up to drive---we…
