Set 2 of this show is one of my favorite sets of Dead music ever. The band could do just about anything at this stage in their careers. The spacey intro to eyes is unreal as the band jams for what seems like forever. The set is a fascinating look at the band as an improvisational unit. We also get the bonus of Ned Lagin joining in on the jams. Why this set didn't make it on the dicks picks from this run of shows is beyond me, as I feel it is one of the most inspiring sets of their career.

I was 17 years old, just discovered GD with friends playing me Europe 72. Fresh-faced, hadn't turned on by then, so saw the gig with clear eyes and open ears (the trips came later, heh heh...). What a spectacle!!! Loved every second.of it. Totally excellent vibe. Lifelong fan ever since. Saw them again at the Rainbow Theatre in 1981. Still listening and discovering the music with these excellent archives. A happy 66 year old with precious memories.

  • ★★★★★ · Set 2 is a spacy masterpiece · Krabcake O. Canada · 2004

This is a pristine-sounding Europe '74 show with many highlights, especially the truly spacy second set. Ned Lagin sits in on keys for the entire set, which is capped by an Eyes of the World as good and unique as they come. Once it finally emerges from Space, it rolls from the get-go. It begins with over five minutes of inspired, possibly acid-fueled two-keyboard jamming on the Eyes riff before the first note is sung. Check this out for some prime late 1974 Dead.
