This is fun. The feel of this session is unlike any live performance I have heard. The band seems to be much looser and relaxed than on stage. Billy sounds more structured, especially in the LDPs. It sounds like Jerry's vocals wearn't miked, which ads a great informal feel. Good tape, too. Check it.

- ★★★★★ · Ned Lagin's B-Day · John Hell · 2004
According to the KPFA Grateful Dead marathon, hosted by David Gans, on 02-03-01, this recording is in Mill Valley at Ace's studio and is a day long jam and practice on Ned Lagin's birthday. Ned was interviewed during the annual marathon and confirmed this.
- ★★★★ · David Crosby vocals here · L. Rosley · 2005
That's not Jerry doing the vocals, but David Crosby, who was living in Marin at the time. Low Down Payment and Homeward Through the Haze appeared on the Crosby and Nash album "Wind on the Water" later that year. Here, Crosby is audible in the second version of Homeward. Low Down Payment is the better song, and here Jerry is in his element. You can only really hear Crosby in the last instance, track 10. The Dead here are very relaxed thoughout. Listen to Kreutzman, who is really on in this set.
