Soundboard. The boys are cranked up for sure right from the start with Bertha and Mama Tried leading the first set. Jerry is very enthusiastic on his vocals during a short Deal. Short Cassidy as well. Both of those tunes clock in at under five minutes each. Weird but really good. Cassidy especially has some killer soloing to be so short. Very upbeat. Slow Friend follows and it is also pretty damn great as well. This show is great. Worth several listens. Mmmm Help-Slip-Franklin in all of it's early glory. Very nice guitar work on easy going GDTRFB.

The first set of this show is just about the chillest, most relaxing Grateful Dead music I’ve heard. Completely and utterly laid back jams perfect for your hammock or sailboat. Even the songs with pace like Cassidy and Big River have a cozy, loose comfort to them. Everyone’s jiving and it’s good clean fun. Then along comes Scarlet Begonias! Scarlet starts with that same coziness, but eventually, after the last verse, right around the 7:00 mark, they flip the switch and the boys start barking.

I was driving my 11 year old son and his best friend to their baseball game the other day and since it was a bit of a trek, I streamed this show for the ride. Somewhere in the middle of Scarlet Begonias my sons friend turned to him asked what we were listening too. My son replied "Real Music". I smiled and didn't say anything. A few moments passed as we listened to “the real music” and my son's friend pondered the answer.

The audience version of this second set (tape began with Help) was one of the first live tapes I ever had, back in ’78 or so. And now this! So there’s that whole thing about some of your earliest tapes being your favorites, but still, this Help>Slip>Frank has to be my favorite. There’s that passage in the latter part of Slipknot! when things settle down and they turn a corner, trotting out of it with a one-of-a-kind jam.
