Being a 14 year old and having a chance to see a Grateful Dead show in my hometown was almost too good to be true. My brother and a few friends went to get tickets after school on the day they went on sale...and got a FRONT ROW seat at 4 in the afternoon! So it was no surprise that the cavernous Rupp Arena (24,000 seat capacity) had about 2500 fans to welcome the band. As has been said in other reviews, the band was inspired that night...but the reason was not a good one.

My wife and I only lived in Lexington for a couple of years and this show was one of the highlights of our stay there. Bobby and Phil called us all to move in closer and it was the most intimate of Dead shows for us. We never heard the Dead play "Warewolves of London" before or after and wondered if we dreamed it for years. A few months before this show I wrote "Dead Heads" a letter and got on their mailing list for the first time.

This was a really good show for the Dead. I am from Lexington so I know they were probably playing to just a few thousand fans inside a huge 24,000 capacity seating arena. I guess that's what they mean when they say their were plenty of seats down in the front. This was the first time the Dead ever played Lexington and it would also be their last time. That's too bad, I wish I knew why. Unfortunately I was just 9 years old in 1978, but I did see them in 1985 in Cincinnati.
