This show is particularly poignant because it was the first show back into circulation for my good buddy Steve after making a miraculous recovery from a near fatal brain aneurysm which he suffered and endured over much of 1979. We were partying and celebrating his return to normal life. Imagine spending 4 months in intensive care. Also significant, since this show is only an hour and a half, the GD were full of p*** and vinegar and really kicked a** that night in Oakland.

I had an old bootleg of this show that included a Bobby intro at the beginning in which he thanks Joan Baez for putting the whole benefit together. And while tuning, in between Franklins and Minglewood, Bobby announced "It's a very special evening tonight, it's our drummer Billy's birthday. It's his 45th, he's getting pretty close to the big 5-O." Why Bobby says that, I am not sure, because Billy was 33 at the time.

I have'nt done many reviews and was not at this show-but i heard about it somewhere Into my fourth listening and it just keeps getting better with a great Jack Straw to open followed by an even better Franklin's (which btw was a midieval landover of free but not noble birth-I always thought it was some guy's name) followed by one of the best Tenessee's I've heard.
