I was at both shows and can tell you they were the 2 best Dead shows I was part of. The 3 sets each eve and 66 songs over 2 nights, coupled with the enthusiasm of the crowd was spectacular. The Theater is Incredible and to be in New Orleans-It could not have been better. The Dead was thrilled to be there and in my opinion 1980 was when they were at their peak.

This show marked the Grateful Dead's triumphant return to New Orleans ten years after they were "busted down on Bourbon Street" on drug charges early in the morning of Saturday, January 31, 1970, at the Marie Antoinette Hotel in the French Quarter, as recounted in the hit song, "Truckin'." The 1970 drug bust took place after they headlined the opening of a new rock venue called The Warehouse in the lower garden district.
