- ★★★★★ · Ah Long Beach of the early 80's! · Brent K · 2005
This for me is the definitive Grateful Dead concert. Not my first -- it was my 4th. But it was when I became a dancing fool and a devotee for life. This will always be my perfect "Scarlet Begonias"/"Fire on the Mountain". The police and wide isles is what made Long Beach. The top floor is encircled by the widest walk ways you have ever seen -- 20 feet wide -- a dancing paradise -- and right out there with great sound. The Long Beach police were so cool. If you were dancing all was great.

I've been waiting to write a review of this since I've refeered to it in comparisom in other reviews. But absolutely yes, the Scarlet Begonias, except for a lyric flub, -> Fire never ceases to blow me away; amongst other fine parts, such as Airto on percussion, and sitting at Mickey's kit through Black Peter.
- ★★★★★ · "Road Trips" Worthy · thebone · 2010
This is the quintessential early 80's show. The performance aptly demonstrates why this was such a great era for the Dead, and why their crowds would begin to surge over the next few years. Killer 1st set versions of Stranger, Sugaree, To Lay Me Down and Deal. The blistering Scarlet>Fire and D/S with Airto and Flora were real treats. As with all great shows, Jerry was on like Donkey Kong. Wish I could have been there, but it's great to just listen and enjoy!
