The Golden Hall shows are unusually good for February performances. Generally you will want to stay away from the first few weeks of shows in the mid-1980s (very mediocre with a couple of exceptions, this being one of them), but Jerry and the boys bring it on strong. The sound quality of the tape is good, but not great. Brent is conspicuously almost absent from the mix, and Jerry is way out front. This is easy to get used to as you can really hear/focus on everything Jerry is playing.

Yes, and it was nice of Purple Gel to tell us about the opera scene. I thot that was sublime. I rate this show a 5 stars because of the efforts of the taper, Rango Keshavan, who, in 1982, seemed to possess an uncanny ability of capturing the GD in all their splendor. I laud the supreme sacrifice he made to get this recording. Otherwise, it seems to be a rather pedestrian performance by the band, bless their hearts.

This show is definitely a superior show, along with the night before. The first set is excellent with a superior To Lay Me Down, a great CC Rider and one of the best Let It Grows out there. Set 2 is just awesome. As far as I know this is the only time that Franklin's was used as the opening song snd the transition into Samson is flawless!! The BRR and Playing are also great versions with a real nice Brent solo Jam into the drums.
