I have always been a fan of the eighties and this show in particular. Spring of 90 has great moments and pristine boards - May of 77 has plenty of devotees. I never understand why comparing eras of the dead is necessarily qualitative. It's like saying Monet's talent went downhill in the the last years of his life. Where am I going with this. I like the sound and vibe of the dead playing in venues like the Warfield. The playing is energetic and the Garcia-Mydland interplay on Birdsong exemplary.

I was in the little overhanging balcony stage left for this show, I was looking just about straight down on the band. It sounded great to me! I saw every show of '83 up to that point and the rest of these Warfield shows, this one seemed the best to date...better would come later as '83 was a banner year for sure! I saw over 50 shows that year and still this one sticks out as a real good time.
