Great quality. This is a hell of a set list. Very nice Dire Wolf. Stellar Loser followed Dupree. Very sweet. Killer Hell in a Bucket late in the first set which is strange before ending first set with nice Might as Well. Unbelievable trio of killer Scarlet into Touch of Grey into Fire in the Mountain. Definitely not a normal trio with Touch in the middle. The transition into Touch is seamless and it is pretty much a perfect version on it's own. Whew. This flows right into an incredible Fire on the Mountain. One of the best I have heard in a long time. I could listen to this jam over and over! Beautiful Stella Blue. Just when you think this incredible show is over they come out and give a 16 minute Dark Star for an encore!!!

While 1984 isn’t usually what comes to mind when thinking of incredible tours, this is a fine example of Jerry and the band at their absolute peak in terms of listening to each other and creating a vivid space from which to improvise. Jerry’s health was in huge decline during this period, his vocals often being strained to the point of scorched during most of 1983-1985. It wasn’t until after the coma and return to the road in 1987 that he could croon on a regular basis.

I used to have a high quality audience tape and loved it, the crowd was hanging on every second. The Scarlet> Touch is maybe "the one", another great choice is 6/29/84. What makes this spectacular is Brent and Phil and how much they are driving it. Brent's vocals and playing are some of his best. Bill and Mickey are right there too. Fire is straight ahead and right on, shorter than you would think, and some gret solos by Jerry.

For those who say the mid 80s are a time of uninspired playing, jerry nodding off in a heroin haze, I submit 7/13/84 as proof that great music can be found from this time period. The 2d set oozes with funked out jamming from beginning to end, the trippy urgency of the Wheel, the plaintiff bleating of Stella, 1984 finds Garcia at both his most vulnerable and powerful.
