I gotta agree with the fact that this was the best of the three Greeks. The week before in Ventura was High Gear; so I figured these shows would be a little slow and soulful. Other than the Watchtower break-out, (which really was UNREAL until it got over played) and the Deal into drums, (which one "journalist" said would be 'a bit much') these shows had short sets. I was pretty bumbed more about a lot of other things connected to Summer East Tour though.

I didn't see this one, but have had an AUD tape since that year - it became the soundtrack to my senior year in high school. I think this show is (STILL) righteously silky smooth, all the right touches in all the right places. Haven't heard the board.......second set is a tight seamless very well played blend of the new and the old. The middle jam in Throwing Stones says it all. 87 was a year of boring set lists, short high octane second sets, this one's a little different.

This show was a treat since it started earlier in the day. What beautiful surroundings. I could look out and see the band, Berkeley, The Bay, San Francisco, The Golden Gate Bridge. Wow! Also since this show was the 20th anniversary of the "summer of love" there was something special about being there at that time. Well worth the trip from NC. The show was really great too. The Dead seemed relaxed and sounded in good form.
