Over the years something always brought me back to this six night run at the garden. I was 25 and living just outside NYC. I had faithfully been seeing shows since 1984. I went to this run of shows alone because I knew it was going to be tough w/out Brent. And I was slow to warm up to any replacements.. I even got thrown out of one of the shows a couple nights earlier for being an obnoxious moron.. But on this night I cleared my head and went in excited and open minded..

Great sound. The B&K's really grabbed Phil's bass for this whole show. It was great to hear the taper talking about that-I guess he listened quick to what he had on tape just before the Quinn encore. The kind of tape that really makes you wish you were there...... If you don't get it by the time you arrive at the GDTRFB in this show, you never will. What a great second set and close out to this show.

In Blair Jackson's book "Garcia: An American Life" he takes the liberty of saying that this night -- and the next night 9/20/90 -- represented two of the best, most monumental shows of the modern age...and he couldn't be more correct. Not sure why the reviewer below said that Jack Straw was good (warts and all) -- this, IMHO, is the single BEST Jack Straw performed EVER.
