Another great show from a satisfying run at Cal Expo. The Help on the Way isn't as good as the other versions with Hornsby (6/14/91 may be the best), but this one is makes a respectable way to start off the show. The pre-drums in the second set is the jewel of this show, and the band seemed reluctant to leave the stage. I remember when I was at the show trying to use telepathy to tell the band to keep playing "don't end with Truckin, play one more". I guess it worked.

Thsi show was a very special moment. It was the first Help>slip>Franklins ever played at Cal Expo. The day was like 90 degrees and sunny- typical for sacramento. But this day was very special. I personally had a great spot on the floor and was with a warm group of poeple. The place was awesome. The help slip says it all. The one at Shoreline a few days later was just as hot. The interesting song in this bunch suprisingly is Picao Moon. It shreds!!! I know its odd but it really does.

The band was clearly into it. This was just about the maximum jam show of the era, and there was very high energy. Looking at the setlist, they could have easily gone into drums from Truckin', but they not only added Terrapin, but they extended the jam at the end of it. They also could have gone into a closer out of Wharf Rat, but added TS/NFA. And the NFA is not one of those throwaway versions that were all too common in the later years.
