This late summer west coast tour was the best week I ever spent during my Dead years. We had a caravan of friends from school in Arizona and some friends from back east all traveling together. Started camping in a friends backyard in Humbolt, and headed to see Jerry at the Eel in northern Cali. Lots of nekkid hippies all watching JGB along the banks of the Eel River. In 91, its didn't often get as throwback as that. From there, it was off to Cal Expo for 3 days. Always a great venue.

Spare no effort to obtain this show, it's bitchin'. The Samson is unreal. The boys sneak their way into it like a lion stalking it's prey through the tall Savannah grass. Makes my hair stand on end every time, and then during the second jam, THEY POUNCE! Bruce is just pounding the hell out of the keys, and everyone else follows his lead. It's smokin', and so is the rest of the show. Don't be fooled by the fact that set 2 looks like a set 1. This show delivers the goods.

IMHO, this is without a doubt the best night of this shoreline run (and possibly the expo run before this). From the Train to Cry to the blown start on BIODTL (which leaves Weir and the crowd laughing out loud) to one of the most bizarre second sets in terms of song choice (including two back to back Garcia numbers out of space!!), this show is great both on paper and in terms of performance. Sound quality is top notch. The boys nailed this night.
