I was 15 at the time. The old man said I couldn't go. Guess what. . . I went anyway. Got caught when my buddy told my dad I went into the city for the Dead show instead of the beach. He waited for an hour at the train station for me. Ten minutes after he left the station, my train rolled in. Called home to let my parents know I would be home in 15 minutes. My mom replied, "Dad just got back from the train station. We know you didn't go to the beach". I was grounded.

I was set to go with four stars till I listened to the Scarlet/Fire a second time. Give it up, this is a great version and considering its length there is very little noodling. It hums along and keeps humming. Gotta bump to five stars for the Scarlet/Fire and really Jerry is pretty strong throughout the night. Whatever his ability to execute, he absolutely never ran out of ideas about new ways to play and he is playing and singing pretty sweetly here.

This was the last time I saw Jerry play. I was 22 and It was my 50th show in 3 years - I no longer needed drugs to get it. But I remember betting my boy-du-jour about 20 minutes into the Scarlet>Fire that he could go get me beer and be back before the jam wrapped. I won. I packed up and moved to the West coast late the following spring with the hope that I'd finish the ride with Jerry in California. I lost that bet.
