At the end of "crowd" before the encore, Bobby says, "Did I hear someone say 'f*** the christian right?'" I was at the show and remember that classic line. I hadn't ever heard one of the Dead say something so confrontational, yet completely understandable. 14 years later, look what the christian right has done to our country, and our world! Jesus was a hippy, for Christ's sake! I think I've seen him walking the parking lot at a show before!

This show has many special meanings to me. For one it was my first and only "holy grail of shows"...to be followed by no other. Before the show this 19 year old kid got thrown into a game that was WAYYY too heavy for this 4th show head. During the Dire Wolf I ate my supper. Feeling as though this was played because right before christmas I had almost got shot (my friend saved my life and got shot, but that's another story).....things started to heat up with the black throated wind.
- ★★★★ · No Teleprompters! · Josiah Babcock · 2013
As a die-hard rail rat, I was lucky enough to be front row for lots of shows in the darkening days of Jerryoke with teleprompters on the stage. For whatever reason, they didn't have them this particular day in Portland, and Jerry was a confident as I saw him that year. There are some great moments - Dire Wolf, BT Wind and Music are solid.
