- ★★★★★ · The GRATEFUL DEAD "Live on Stage" July 31, 1971 at the Yale Bowl, Yale University, New Haven Connecticut, United States of America · oh_uh_um_ah · 2009
` ~^|\_@|@_/|^~ ~ / \ ~ ~This Day In GRATEFUL DEAD History~ Thirty eight years ago today the GRATEFUL DEAD were performing a live show at the Yale Bowl in New Haven, Connecticut. I couldn't be there in 1971, but I showed up today to listen to the show, where were you? My favorite year of the GRATEFUL DEAD is 1971. In 1971 they had the best sound, the best jams, the best songs, and they had Pigpen, to entertain us with the best front man in R&B history, and they didn't have Mickey Hart.

you know what, this recording is not as bad as people before me make it out, Ya the crowd noise is frustrating at times, but they mellow out. once you get beond the screams, the recording is quite comprehensive, sure it's an audiance, therefore all sounds are not equal, but jerry bob phil and billy come thur instrmentally, especially in dark star.

I was at this concert, stage center about half way up the bowl. Kopps Communication did a great sales job on this, as many from Long Island made the journey for the concert. The action outside gave us two shows to watch. Have just downloaded, not yet listened, but there was a huge amount of noise in the crowd, that would get mellow and quiet at times, and over the edge at others. I hope I enjoy the file broadcast as much as I did the concert. Pigpen and Jerry were .... undescribable that night.
