The 3rd show of the run is probably the best - the bookends (28th) close behind. There's a big 1st set: 18 songs/2 hrs, but long gaps, like Veneta or 5/7/77, though the songs themselves are pretty concise on this night until the Dawk Staw. The set varied little this week, as they prepared for E72 and readied a couple new songs. This was the last Pig-heavy run. First Set. China Cat is good but the Rider is great.

I'm listening to this Dark Star right now...trippy s*** man. No seriously though this one kicks a**. Personally I my favorite period for Dark Star is '72-'74. There are just too many amazing versions. This is one of those ones that sorta drops into a spacey bit for a while all the instruments mingle if you will with each other. Phil does some awesome stuff with his bass starting around the 12:00 mark.

A 1st set that is as long as many shows in the 1980s! The Dead showed in early 1972 that they can play a First Set that is fully electric yet is as mellow as any acoustic set they ventured in 1970. Somewhere during Cumberland, Looks Like Rain I am so blown away by this band. Give a good listen to Phil's backing vocals during Weir's pristine LLR.
