It is improper GD etiquette to suggest the greatest show ever, but I am going to buck the protocol and state publicly that though this may not be the greatest show ever, but, Nun the Less, it was the greatest show I have ever attended -- still! To this day. Say what you will about this particular representation of this vaunted parlay say the recording is not stellar. Nun the Less, this recording adequately displays the sound of what went down that night. YOU MUST PLAY THIS LOUD !!!!

I was fortunate to attend two shows at Winterland in 1977, and have no idea which ones they were. All I know is they were what turned me on the Dead. From the Cow Palace New Years 76-77 to this run of shows at Winterland to wrap up the year, the band is on fire. This show sounds like a true sweat box for the raging dancing crazies that i used to hang with. Every song here is a prize! Great NFA and the China Cat out of space is phenomenal.

Does it get any better than this, folks? If it does, please let me know. Just when you thought they couldn't rock it any harder, well, there they go again. I love the way this recording sounds - raw, demonstrative. JG's guitar playing on Dec 29, 1977 is terrifying. Hands down multiple best-ofs here. Check out the New Minglewood, or the PL, if you're in doubt - and that's sampling the first set. Turn your iphone off and Turn This Up, like the man said. Big Gratitude to the archivists.
